Youth Needs Study

In 2018 just under 2,000 students in our community were surveyed regarding a number of their interests and needs. 918 of those teens (male and female) listed that they would like access to a cooking club. That information inspired us to totally remodel our 1958 kitchen at our community learning center into a modern teaching kitchen where children and teens can learn to cook, and where we can provided vocational training in the culinary profession. The dream has begun!

Once completed we will be able to provide cooking classes to parents as well, including how to can and preserve produce and fruit that they currently grow in the community garden behind the learning center. In partnership with Marion Polk Food Share we will teach Seed to Supper and other classes that will help the families to eat healthy foods they prepare and to save money.

Parents and teens will have an opportunity to teach cooking to others, perhaps how to make tamales, pierogies, pizza from scratch, Indian Fry Bread or whatever food they are inspired to teach others to cook, or bake. Who wants to learn?
